How can you make others empathetic to your story? How do you make your story “stick”? In this lecture, Professor Huang will discuss how storytelling can be one of our most powerful, effective, and entertaining forms of communication.

Wesley “Wes” Yin, Professor of Public Policy & Management

Two in five Americans have medical debt, nearly half of whom owe more than $2,500. Medical debt in collections is now the largest source of collections debt, exceeding all other sources of combined. How do we tackle the rising problem of medical indebtedness? Concerned by this problem, governments and donors have undertaken large, high-profile efforts to relieve medical debt. To understand how debt relief impacts individuals, we conducted two randomized experiments that relieved $169 million in medical debt for over 83,000 people, and study how debt relief impacts people’s financial health, behaviors, and well-being. In this lecture, Dr. Yin reports results of this large debt relief experiment, and discusses strategies for how we might improve the people’s well-being and the financing of our health care system.
